ODDFELLOWS' BALL.

The tenth annual ball of the Loyal Te Awamutu Lodge was held in the Town Hall on Wednesday night. That it was as enjoyable as this ball, one of the best if not the best of our local balls, always is, goes without saying. About eighty couples were to be seen dancing, but there was a considerable over plus of ladies, the sterner sex beingsomewhat backward on this occasion. The committee had excelled themselves in their efforts for the enjoyment of their guests, and are to be heartily congratulated on the success of the entertainment. The decorations, always a strong feature of the Oddfellows' ball, were in excellent taste, the walls entirely 'covered with fronds of nikau, intersperced with pampas grass and ferns of various discriptions, the flags suspended from the roof with Chinese lanterns beneath, coupled with the many charming toilets displayed by the fair sex, giving quite a festal touch to the scene. The floor was good, and the lights, though somewhat jerky, did not on this occasion give any cause for complaint. The very "evident necessity for the extension of the supper room was again voiced in the decision of the committee to erect a marquee to relieve the crush in the ball room, and also to provide adequate sitting out accommodation. The decorations of the interior were well carried out, and the dim light, and cool atmosphere, made it a very popular resort between dances. Excellent music was supplied by the Symphony Club, this being their first public engagement in Te Awamutu. Dancers will all welcome the appearance of this new society, and if its efforts are always as successful as they were on Wednesday night numerous calls will undoubtedly be made on its services. The supper was an excellent one, thanks to the untiring efforts of the ladies, on whom the success of this part of the. entertainment always depends. Several extras were rendered in addition to the twenty-four dances on the programme, and it was not until a few hours before sunrise that the satisfied guests dispersed to their respective homes,
