Mrs J. Cruickshank has gone to Auckland to spend three or four days’ holiday. Miss Cruickshank has returned from a visit to her sister in Tauranga, where she has spent an enjoyable holiday. Mrs L. Bailey left this morning to spend a few days in Auckland. Mrs J. Le Sueur has gone to Auckland for a week’s holiday. Miss Barton is spending a few days with her sister, Mrs Empson of this town.

On Friday evening last the members and friends of the Loyal Hamilton Oddfellows’ Lodge held a very successful dance.

The engagement is announced of Miss B. Coates to Mr Hughes, of Taumarantti.

Mrs Julian, of Te Kuiti, has been spending a holiday with Mrs A. Hyde, at “ Aroha House.” Mrs I. Coates, of Hamilton, has gone for 6 months holiday to visit friends and relations in the Nelson district, and will tom - the South Island ere she returns. Mrs Furze gave a verv enjoyable card afternoon last Tuesday. The ball held in the Town Hall Hamilton, last Friday was one of the most successful yet held. The event was unique, as its origin was the coming-out of 12 maidens, and was given by the parents of these young ladies, namely, Messrs Brewis, Burd, Cussen, Ring, Jackson, Penniket, Stevens, Tompkins,Furze, O’Neill Provis and Speedy. Mr J. B. Teasdale, coroner, left to-day to hold an inquest on the body of W. H. Adams, surveyor, of Te Kuiti, who was found shot.

Mr W. F. Stewart, postmaster, who is on annual leave, left by the Main Trunk express last night for Hawke’s Bay. Mr Stewart will be off duty for three weeks, and will probably visit the South Island. In his absence Mr Hewitt is relieving postmaster. Rev. W. Woollass returned by Main Trunk express last night after a visit to Rotorua and Bay of Plenty districts.
