OTOROHANGA.

(Own Correspondent.)

The football season was opened on Saturday by the annual fixture, East v. West. The club have been fortunate enough to have a splendid site placed at its disposal by Mr T. Turner. It was noticeable that three or four veteran players had omitted to don the jersey, but they were interested spectators. From this game the teams are generally selected, and the selector has some good material to work upon. The annual dinner was held at Miss Hunter's Hotel, and there was a splendid attendance of players and vice-presidents and patrons of the game. Mr W. J. Worthington presided. The repast was one of the best that has been provided, and ample justice was done to it. Immediately following the dinner, Mr Worthington said that owing to the very boisterous weather there had not been a very large attendance at the annual meeting. The attendanae to-night was more representative, so he would give a resume of the annual report, which showed that the club had been most successful in the past season, and was in a most satisfactory" position' to-day. The first-grade team entered for the championship honours, and after beating all the other clubs were again successful in holding the Banner for the season, and winning outright the Chilcott Cup. Instead of caps again the players preferred medals, which were obtained and presented. He also made reference to the loss sustained by both the Union and Club in the untimely death of Mr J. Burke, who had proved himself a zealous follower of the game, and an impartial referee. In conclusion, Mr Worthington thanked the committee, players, and patrons for the cheerful and generous assistance given to the club, which he felt sure had made the season so very successful.
