ST. JOHN'S CEMETERY.
A meeting called by the Rev. F.'W. Clarke to discuss the best method of putting the cemetery at St. John's Anglican Church in order was held in the public library on Wednesday evening. The meeting was of a representative character, and the Rev. F. W. Clarke was voted to the chair. A letter was read from Mr W. H. Mandeno, enclosing a donation of one guinea and expressing sympathy with the object of the meeting. The chairman also reported that Colonel and Mrs Ryder and Mr J. G. Elmsly had promised donations of £l is each. The chairman outlined the purpose of the meeting, and said that a large amount of support would be forthcoming if a definite scheme of improvement was decided upon. The Rev. W. Woollass said he had been asked by his church to support the improvement scheme, and he hoped to see the grounds made into a beauty spot, instead of being an eyesore, as at present.
It was decided, after full discussion, to appoint Mr D. Bockett, Rev. W. Woollass, and the chairman a deputation to wait upon the Town Board and discuss with them the terms on which they would take over the management of the ground, and see that suitable protection was afforded by means of a fence, or in some other way, to the graves. It was decided to ask Colonel Ryder to write Home to the commanding ofiicers of the regiments which have some of their dead interred in the cemetery, and get their assistance towards the necessary upkeep of the grounds.
