CONCERT AT PUKETARATA.

A large number of settlers attended a concert and dance, organised by the Farmers’ Union on March 29th for the purpose of increasing the fund for building a much-needed public hall at Puketarata. A lengthy programme was carried out, and met with the approval of the audience. Three items by school children under the able direction Miss Ross were especially enjoyed. The committee take this opportunity of heartily thanking all those who so willingly assisted to make the evening a success. A dance ended the proceedings, and in spite of the cramped space afforded by the school room those taking part derived a fair amount of pleasure therefrom. Mrs Holden filled the position of accompanist for the concert, and also very kindly officiated at the piano for the dance. Following is a list of the performers : —Mrs Rogers, Misses Ross and Budge, Messrs Owen, Burns, and Budge (songs), Misses Budge (pianoforte duet), Miss Cooper (pianoforte solo), Mrs Danks, Miss Cooper, Messrs Owen, Burns, Merrington, and Hudson, and Master N. Cooper (recitations). A donation of a guinea from a settler brought the total cash in hand to £l3 15 s 3* and it is hoped that in the near future building operations may be commenced.
