PATERANGI.

Favoured with a fine day the annual school picnic was held at Mr Fred Ryburn’s homestead on Friday last. Although the attendance was not a record one there was a good number present, including, friends from the neighbouring districts. After lunch, Mr Webb, chairman of the school committee, presented the children with their books, and the. afternoon was spent very pleasantly with games of rounders, French tig and tennis. Various races were also held for all. Following are the results :

Girls’ Races. First Race: Lucy McNaul I, Elsie Johnstone 2, Olive Bell 3. Second Race : Gladys Brough I, Corrie Jones 2, Tui Jephson 3. Third Race: Annie Karl I, Kate Raynor 2, Ono Jephson 3. Fourth Race: Violet Bell I, Nannie Jephson 2, Grace Finch 3. Skipping.

Elder Girls : Olive Bell I, Elsie Johnson 2. Younger Girls: Grace Finch I, Annie Karl 2.

Three-legged Race: Elder Girls, Tui Jephson and Myrtle Ryburn I. Younger Girls, Annie Karl and Gladys Brough I. Egg and Spoon Race, Tui Jephson. Boys’ Races.

First Race: Scott Macky I, Joe Joam 2, Allan Bell. Second Race: John Karl I, Franklin Bates 2, Hanley Webb 3 Third Race : Leslie Bell I, Eric Marshall 2, James McNaul 3.

Fourth Race: Willie Brough I, Alfred Brough 2, Selwyn Germann 3. Sack Race (elder boys): Henry Maney I, Allan Bell 2. Younger Boys: James McNaul 1, John Karl 2. Quoit Throwing (elder boys): Allan Bell I, Scott Macky 2. Younger Boys : Stanley Webb I, George Finch 2. Young Ladies’ Race: Miss Linder I, Miss M. Finch 2. Married Ladies’ Race : Mrs N. Reid 1, Mrs Shaw 2. Young Men’s Race: Mr T. Perkinson I, Mr A. Bell 2. Married Men’s Race : Mr Shaw I, Mr F. Ryburn 2. The best and most amusing race of the day was the race after the lolly man, which was much enjoyed by the children. After 5 o'clock tea, hearty cheers were given for Mr and Mrs Ryburn. In the evening an enjoyable dance was held in the hall.
