Work was ceased on a bridge job not far from New Plymouth the other day, and excitement reigned supreme for a few minutes. It appears that a settler was crossing the bridge where -repairs were in operation, and requested the foreman to stop while he passed. The story says that the man at the head of things refused, whereupon the farmer dismounted and looking for something he could not eat. He got it —and considerably more tnan he bargained for. Court proceedings are likely to follow.
