OTOROHANGA.
(Own Correspondent.) At a special meeting of the Otorohanga Town Council, called for the purpose of fixing the weekly half-holiday, the councillors considered it would be more * convenient for the majority of the people if the shops were' to be open on Saturday evenings, and unanimously decided to fix the half-holiday on Wednesdays for the coming year. The committee have arrangements well in hand for the annual children's picnic to be held on February 10 th. All children are to be catered for, and hot water ortea will be available for the adults. Given a fine clay there ought to be a great attendance. There is to be a dance in the evening. Arrangements are well in hand forthe athletic sports . meeting to " be held about the end of March. *- The many friends of Mr Colhoun, assembled last Saturday night to bid him and his family farewell. Mr Colhoun was transferred from Ohaupo last Easter, and during the short time he has been with us has succeeded in winning the esteem of both pupils and parents. It was with deep regret that the Otorohanga people heard of his transfer to Ngaruawahia. About one hundred and'fifty adults and over one hundred children were . present, and a most enjoyable evening was spent. After supper Mr Miller (chairman of the school committee) made a short speech, wishing Mr Colhoun and his wife and family God-speed. Mr Colhoun in reply, said.that he was very sorry to leave, and thanked the people of Otorohanga for the . cordial friendship they had always shown to him and his. Everyone then took hands and sang "AuldLang Syne."
