FUNERAL OF THE LATE CAPTAIN BOCKETT.

The funeral of the late Captain Daniel Bockett took place on Tuesday afternoon, and was attended by a very large number of residents and pioneer settlers. The cortege was a long one, and represented all classes of the community, the great esteem in which the deceased gentleman was held. Members of the Town Band played the Dead March in Saul as the cor-

tege slowly wended its way from the deceased’s lati residence to St. John’s cemetery. A number ot the C squadron, and Regiment A.M.R., were in attendance, together with several representa-tives-of other regiments' and ex-

members of the militia. The chief mourners were / Messrs Arthur, Herbert, and ■' Dudley Bockett and Mr C. West (son-in-law). The pall-bearers were Surgeon - Captain Henderson, Captains C. C. Berry, R. P.Ryder, w lC and Mr W. H. Northcrott (ex-stipendiary magistrate). At St. John’s Church a service was held, at which the Town Band played the hymns. At this service as

at the graveside the Rev. F. W. Clarke officiated. Among those who followed the deceased soldiei to his last resting place were Messrs Bertram, Thompson and Kennedy, all three having been associated with the late Captain Bockett during the war, the latter being drill sergeant of

the Regiment. There were no volleys, as under new regulations no military honours are permitted unless the deceased is on the active service list.
