MAORI ELECTIONS.

There was a ripple of excitement in native circles on Tuesday when the election of a Parliamentary candidate for the Western M#sri electorate was conducted. The total number of votes recorded up to the present are 5141. There are 22 smaller returns to come in. The following are the results to hand : DrPomare(l) ... 2202 H. Kaihau(O) ... 1607 Pepene Eketone (G) 1332 . Ngarangi ... 446 Tarapipi ... 230 Hetareka •■• 3 ' The following were,the results at the election of 1890 :—H. Kaihau 2035, Pepene Eketone 1486,'Heu Heu 1185, Te Ao 1145. -KahuS6s-
For the Northern electorate, Te Rangihiroa, a Government supporter, has a lead of 295 with fourteen small results to come in, which cannot affect the result. In the Southern electorate,, the following is the polling :—Tare Parata (G) 264, John Uru 233, Tahuaroa Watson 130, James Apere 84, Te One Erihana 80, Hamiona Potete 18.
