TE AWAMUTU TOWN BOARD

The regular monthly meeting of the above Board was held in Bockett's Buildings on Thursday. There were present Messrs C. Bowden (chairman), G. H. White, A. Wallace, S. Mathews, and Dr. Reekie. The minutes of the former meeting were read and confirmed.

Remission of Rates.

Dr Henderson wrote asking for a refund of the amount paid in rates upon his residence, which was destroyed by fire.

The Board was not able to grant the request. Street Crossings.

The Chamber ,of Commerce again wrote asking the Board to have several crossings formed. A reply to be sent that until the building's in the main thoroughfare are back to the proper frontage, thus enabling the Board to work from definite levels, no action can be'taken. Public Cemetery.

Mr A. V. McDonald wrote saying that he had not been definitely advised of the Board's intention to take some of his land for a cemetary site. The clerk reported that the surveyors had the matter well in hand. The chairman, Messrs White and Dr Reekie were appointed to deal with this matter. Hawkers and Pedlars. The chamber of commerce wrote asking the Board to enforce the by-law respecting the Hawkers and Pedlars and pointing out that no flicense fees had been collected. It was decided to submit the by-law to the Board's solicitor before doing anything further. Brick Area. Messrs W.' N. von Stunner, G. M. A. Ahier and J. B. Teasdale, on behalf of the Chamber of Commerce, waited upon the Board to ascertain particulars of the Brick Area. The board defined the boundaries and explained the purposes of the bylaw. Mr Teasdale considered that the Board had done wrong in going outside of the business sections and including I acre residential sites. The Board, however, explained that the bylaw would effect only business premises or buildings on the line of the street. After further explanations the deputation expressed satisfaction with the bylaw and withdrew. Hall Chairs. It was ..decided to obtain a specimen chair of the approved design which is to be bolted throughout. If satisfactory an order will be placed for six dozen chairs without further delay. Saleyards. The Clerk reported that the contractor had started building the additional pens at the Te Awamutu saleyards. Footpaths in Alexandra and Teasdale Streets. The chairman reported that Messrs Tickerpenny and Prescott were making satisfactory*headway with the formation of the footpaths in the above streets. Crossing. Dr. Reekie appli ;d for and was given permission t.> put in a cut- * vert at the kcrbing at his main entrance. Permission was also given to metal the road in front ,• of his residence. Station Footpath. It was decided to. extend the contract for the formation of the footpath on the Station road so as to form the path from Goodfellow street to the railway gates. Roache Stre :t. It was decided to use the road grader to have the necessary • grading done in Roache street. Lighting. The agreement in connection with the proposed gas company was received. It was decided to hold this matter over until the report of Mr Munro Wilson concerning water supply proposals be received. Both proposals will be considered at a public meeting to be held at, a later date. Sign Board. Permission was granted to Mr White to etect a sign board as proposed, provided that the necessary by-law was complied with.

Pounding Horses. Mr E. Bellringer "wrote stating that he he had detained several horses, and asked what steps were necessary to have them im- ' pounded'. It was decided to re- ' ply stating that the poundkeeper - would he ready to receive them' Meetings. It was decided to hold the meetings for the next three months in the evening. . . Thanks. A vote of thanks was passed to Mr E. Harrison for gratituously tuning and overhauling the new hall piano.
