MORE LIQUOR LIES EXPOSED! THE LIQUOR PARTY all over the Dominion have for a long time lied about the results of No-license in Masterton. At last the bubble has burst. No-liccnse in Masterton is vindicated! Messrs W. J. B. Trewin, barrister and ex-mayor, and H. M. Mclntyre, M.A., L.L.8., were appointed adjudicators in the contention referred to in the attached newspaper extract. On Wednesday last they gave judgment which indicated the Trade had deliberately and persistently falsified and misrepresented the -position re bankruptcies, closed premises, and sport. Masterton is vindicated and Mr McManaway, the President of the Licensed Victuallers’ Association, who accepted responsibility for the statements and tried to bluff.it through with a backing of £25, is now proven to be wrong, and has to pay up. The Masterton Borongh Council have passed a resolution condemning the Liquor Trade’s representations. THE LIQUOR QUESTION I I——■■■! ■!—■■■ NO-LICE.NSE IN MASTERTON A CHALLENGE DECIDED. [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] FEILDING, Wednesday. Recently the- Rev. Hammond, no-license lecturer, speaking in Feilding, said that a pictorial advertisement qf empty shops, etc., in Masterton, was misleading. Mr H, McManaway, president of the Licensed Victuallers’ Association, challenged Mr Hammond and said he would give £25 to the hospital if the matter for the advertisement was false. Two adjudicators were appointed, Messrs W. J. B. Trewin, barrister and ex-Mayor, and H. M. Mclntyre, M.A., L.L.8., and they proceeded to Masterton on Saturday, and gave their judgment to-day. They held that one of the premises was photographed twice, and was made to appear like two shops. The occupier of one had moved to darger premises. In another instance the premises were empty, but the occupier had removed to a larger shop. A s for the Temple Chambers, they had never been empty. A statement of bankruptcies included those from outside the electoral district. A statement to the effect that the Caledonian Society lost £6l was not correct, as they had made a £6l profit. A statement to the effect that people had lost faith in Masterton had no foundation. Mr Hammond therefore wins. AN EXAMPLE FOR CARTERTON. By Telegraph —Press Association Carterton, Wednesday. A public meeting on the licensing question was held here last night, at which several Masterton business men spoke of the good effect of no-license in Masterton. At the close of the meeting the following resolution was put: — “ That this large and representative audience of Carterton citizens, having heard the convincing statements of Masterton business men in regard to the good effects of no-license in Masterton, decides its intention of supporting no-license at the coming poll.” The motion was carried unanimously.
