SATURDAY’S DEMONSTRA-

TIONS

In spite of the threatening weather on Saturday afternoon, about 120 children assembled at the Town Flail to take part in the No-License demonstration. A procession headed by v the Rev. W. Woollass and Mr JxMarion, proceeded down Roaclr Street, along Alexandra Street and'Arawata Street to Mahoe Street (past the saleyards) and round Alex-'' andra Street to the Town Hall. The children carried banners, and a feature of the procession was the many very prettily decorated perambulatorsand bicycles Arriving at the Town Hall, the children and the many spectators were addressed by the Rev. Clarke, B.A. and Mr J. Marion. The organisers provided prizes for the best decorated perambulator and bicycle, 'and the prizes were awarded to (perambulator) Ist. Miss Nessie White ; 2nd. Miss Ruby Hutt; 3rd. Miss Lilia Lawson ; (bicycle) Ist. Master Wm. Groves; 2nd. Master Walter Middlebrook. All .were very highly commended. Afternoon tea was provided by the ladies, and the children had a real goodafternoon’s enjoyment. OPEN-AIR MEETING. On Saturday evening about 250 people assembled at the post office corner, when the Rev. F. W. Clarke and Mr J. Marion addressed an open-air meeting. Their remarks at the outset were at times drowned by the heckling and hooting of a few objectors on the outskirts of the crowd, but the speakers eventually made themselves heard, and the address proceeded on the usual lines.
