RAILWAYS AND SHOW STOCK.
TOO MUCH RED TAPE.
■ The Minister for Railways Kas been asked on many, occasions to make an alteration in certificate required by the Department for stock returning from shows. "In the hurly-burly of the show time/' says the " Farmers' Union Advocate," this is one of the vexatious pieces of red tape which everyone, who has had to go through the process finds most irksome, and the ordinary individual thinks the whole process might be much simplified. _ The same question came up again at the last At and P. Conference, and again the resolutionfffwas passed;.'-"That the Department be asltld to simplify the certificate for show stock." Mr E. Hall, in amoving this, said it would be boon to both parties* if ■"{his*could be done. The certificates in use in Victoria and New South Wales were exhibited, showing how it could be done. Mr Fulton seconded the motion, and said that when the matter Was mentioned to the Hon. Mr fMillar two years ago his reply was favourable. Mr Ernest Short stated that it took sometimes "18 months to get back the freighfcs|)aid." The reply to this request was in the best style of officialdom, viz., the certificates m ussi are required in order to; safeguard the interests of the Deof bona fide exhibitors, arid experience has sjiQjyjL.|hat concessions such as these granted to exhibitors of cases will ansa where, "unscrupulous ;. people attempt to defraud the" Department of legitimate revenue, i
