GENERAL ELECTION.

Mr H. J. Greenslade, the sitting member for Waikato, was in Te Awamutu on Saturday last.

It is generally believed that Thursday, 7th December, will be the date of the general election.

Ihe main roll for the Waikato electorate is expected to be available sometime this week.

The supplementary roll will close at 5 p.m on the day the writs are issued, which in all likelihood will be in about a fort-

night, so that anyone not already on the roll had better see to it at once.

The Wellington Dominion states that the Prime Minister informed a reporter on Saturday, that polling day in connection with the general elections and licensing issues was fixed for Thursday, December '/. This date would not clash with any show or other fixtures of importance in the Dominion.

Mr W. F. Massey M.P. opened his political campaign last evening at Waiuku. The contest for the Raglan seat is very keenly contested. Mr J. C. Dromgool, Liberal candidate, addressed the electors at Huntly on Friday. Mr Wm. Duncan, the Ministerial candidate, had a most attentive meeting at Mercer on the same evening and Mr Basil Hewitt, the Independent candidate delivered his opening address at Ngaruawahia to an over-flowing audience. Mr Allan Bell (Opposition) will speak at Pukekobe East to-night. Mr J. A. Young, Independent candidate for Waikato, received a vote of thanks and confidence at Te Pahu on Friday evening. At Te Aroha on Friday, Mr W. H. Hemes (opposition) addressed! a packed hall, and received a unanimous vote of thanks and confidence.

Mr A. H. Anderson has been granted permission by the New Zealand Labour party to withdraw from the coming election. Since the return of Mr H. J. Greensiade, M.P., from Wellington (the " Waikato Times " says) he has visited several centres in the electorate, and in each case strong committees have been formed with a view to securing his re-election.
