OTOROHANGA.

(Own Correspondent.) A highly successful concert, followed by a dance was held in Turner’s Hall on Wednesday night. The attendance was good and an excellent programme was submitted. An overture by Mrs H. Matthews (piano) and Mr Hosking (violin),was greatly appreciated. Songs were contributed by Messrs Wilde (encored), Johnson (encored), and Burns, and recitations by Messrs Warmington (Te Kuiti), and Burns. .Two glees by a party of singers completed a very enjoyable programme. After the interval the farce “Ice on Parle Francais” was staged. Mr Elliott ably took the part of Mr Spriggins (who decides to let lodgings to Frenchmen). Mrs Spriggins, a lady who never forgot her relationship with the FitzPentonvilles, was taken by Mrs Whyte. Mrs Spencer made a charming Angelina Spriggins. Mr Burns, as Victor Dubois, Angelina’s French lover, left nothing to be desired. Miss Joyce took the part of Anna Maria, the overworked and under-paid maid-of-all-work in the Spriggin’s house, and did her part splendidly. Miss Rosking as Mrs Rattan, was most convincing. As the jealous and irascible Major Rattan, Mr Hawkins was well placed, and contributed to the fun of the farce considerably. The whole play went with a swing from start to finish, and judging from the laughter and frequent applause, was greatly appreciated. Takings amounting to £l2 4s, were very satisfactory. Supper was provided by the members of the ladies’ guild. Mrs Holden ancl Mrs PI. Matthews very kindly played the music for the dance, ft is understood that the proceeds are to be devoted towards hangings for the church, and towards starting a Sunday school, library.

On Friday week the Anglican Bishop of Auckland Dr Crossley, is coming here arc his parishoners are giving a social in the hall to welcome him.
