Messrs Dalgety and Co., Ltd., report as follows,: — 1 On Tuesday, 26th September, we had a fair yarding of cattle and a few sheep at our sale at Ohaupo. Among the cattle were some choice Jersey and Holstein cross heifers, which, however, did not sell on account of it being too early in the season. Two and 3-year bullocks sold readily under the hammer, and for which there was keen competition. Hoggets were dull of sale. We quote as follows: —Cull hoggets Ils 6d, 3 year bullocks £6 16s, 2 year bullocks £4 14s. At Otorohanga on Wednesday, 27th September, we had a fair yarding of sheep and cattle, all of which sold readily under the hammer, and we had a full clearance of everything except one small pen of cows and calves. We quote: 4 and 6 tooth store wethers 17s 5d to 17s 7d, mixed 2 tooth ewes and wethers I2s 4d, yearling steers £3 5s to £3 6d, yearling heifers £2 15s to £3 6d, springing heifers £5 12s 6d to £6 17s 6d. On Thursday, 28th September, we held our usual tri-weekly fat stock sale at Hamilton, when we offered a fair yarding of fat sheep and beef, also pigs and dairy cattle. Competition for both beef and mutton was very brisk, and nearly all the lines sold readily under the hammer. The dairy cattle were somewhat dull of sale and the demand was not so good as at recent sales. We quote : Fat wethers £1 4s 6d, fat ewes 19s, fat hoggets 13s 6d to £1 Is lid, fat bullocks £lO ss, £l2, to £l2 6s, fat cows £5 14s to £7 ss, veal calf £l lOs 6d, yearling heifers £2 15s to £2 17s 6d, 18 month heifers £3 I2s to £3 17s 6d, yearling steers £2 18s, small mixed yearlings £1 17s, springing heifers £7 15s to £B, backward springing heifers £6 lOs to £6 17s 6d, milch cows £7 to £B, porkers £1 5 s 6d to £ I 9s 3d, store pigs 18s to £1 is 6d, slips 13s 9d to 15s 6d, weaners 6s 6d to 14s.
The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., report : CAMBRIDGE SALE. At Cambridge on Friday, 29th inst., we yarded 913 head of cattle, also sheep and pigs. There was a large attendance, buyers being present from all parts of Waikato, King Country, and Paeroa, and everything sold at most satisfactory prices. The beef pens contained 127 fat steers and cows, which were easily competed for. Prices were : —Fat steers £lO lOs to £ll I2s 6d, lighter weights £8 15s to £9 lOs, fat cows, good £8 7s 6d to £lO, medium cows £7 2s 6d to £8 ss, lighter weights £6 to £6 15s, cows in fresh condition £3 16s to £4 18s, store cows £5 3s to £6 14s, 18 months to 2 year old steers £3 16s to £4 lOs, well grown yearling steers £3 6s to £3 7s, mixed yearlings £2 17s to £2 19s, smaller yearlings £l 17s 6d to £2 7s, good yearling heifers £3 Is to £3 4s 6d, 18 months to 2 year old empty heifers £3 15s to £4, fat ewes £l Os 6d to £l Is 6d, hoggets 13s 9d to 15s 6d, ewes in lamb £l, store pigs£l 2s to £l ss, slips 16s to 17s 6d, weaners lOs to 13s.
