METHODIST CONCERT AT TE AWAMUTU.

The concert in the Town Hall on Wednesday evening, in aid of the Methodist Church new hymnal fund, was a most pronounced success, and the management is to be congratulated on the unusual excellence of the entertainment, the programme reflecting the greatest credit on both performers and those in charge of the arrangements. Performers resident outside of Te Awamutu were largely drawn upon, including Misses Henderson (Hamilton), Galloway (Auckland), Evans (Auckland), and Dorothy Henderson (Hamilton), and Mr L. O'Malley (Auckland), all of whom acquitted themselves to the entire satisfaction of an enthusiastic audience.

The concert opened with a nicely executed pianoforte duet by Mesdames Henderson and Mandeno. Mrs F. W. Clarke’s pleasing voice was heard to advantage in “At the Window,” while Miss Henderson who is always welcome with a Te Awamutu audience, gave with her usual finish two selected songs. “ Boon the Burn,” by Miss Galloway was enthusiastically encored, and left the audience anxious for more. That young lady is assured of a warm welcome on any future appearance. Her rendering of that/old favourite, “ Land o’ the Leal ” as an encore in the second part went right home, and left (at least) every son of Gael with a lump in his throat. The duets, “ Under the Summer Tree,” and “ When the- Wind Bloweth,” by Mesdames Henderson and Andrew and Clarke and Andrew respectively were much appreciated. Mrs Wool lass had full possession of her audience during her finished rendering of that gem “ Consider the Lilies,” her clearness of enunciation being a marked feature. Ol the male performers perhaps Mr de Ridder was paid the highest compliment, the unusual happening ol an encore to a piano solo being insisted upon. This gentleman is a clever executant, and will prove a valuable addition to local musical talent. Messrs Peake (selected), L. O’Malley, The Trumpeter,” and Galloway The Postillion,” all had to submit to encores. A cornet, solo bv Mi Dil was very favourably received. Mr M. S. Laurie’s solo “ T.hora ” met with the warm reception that always awaits him. Wifi o the Wisp was quite up to Mr O. Price Owen’s best, and his “ Experiences ” were amusing, as was the homourous reading by Mr T. S, Davis. The two orchestral selections by the Bedford family came in for a lot ol favourable comment. The members of this talented and musical family are a decided acquisition to the district. The Rev. Lamond thanked all those who had so willingly assisted m making the entertainment th decided’ musical success it had proved. Refreshments awaited % audience immediately at the close of the Concert, and everyone went home more than satisfied with what was unanimously voted a musical treat, much above the average. V. '
