THE BAND ROTUNDA.

(TO THE EDITOR.) Sir—Would you kindly inform me, and others who are interested if anything is being done by the Town Board in regard to the above matter. I was under the impression that a plan had been prepared and that strips were to be taken to raise the necessary amount to get the £75 subsidy from the Government. Is there not a danger of the subsidy beinglost? In any case at the present rate of progress, there will be no Band Rotunda available this summer. It is showing scant courtesy to the Domain Board after all the expense they have gone to, in providing such facilities for the encouragement of sport in the town. Surely there is enough public spirit in the place to secure the necessary amount to get this memorial. Could you do something, Mr Editor, in the way of rousing the authorities to action, lest they forget.—l am, etc., CIVIS,

TO THE EDITOR. SIR, —I am no orator as some of your correspondents claim.to be, but just a plain blunt man, so forgive me if my speech is unpolished. lam very fond of, and proud of my native town, for I was born only a few miles from Te Awamjitu, and am pleased to note everts.;sign of progress and prosperity of pur town, and count our local newspaper one of them, indeed, I often send my copy to friends who have left the Dominion, but who are still interested in it, and in Te Awamutu particularly. I should have sent more, but after reading some of the letters in your correspondence column, I carefully poked the paper into the kitchen stove, for fear anyone else should see the senseless drivel, that emanates from some of the local pens, that brought a well deserved rebuke from " Rata" and even the discussion of the water and drainage schemes have been made an excuse for.gratifying personal spite and giving utterance to cheap sneers at a fellow townsman's politics. That perhaps is not surprising, there are always a lot of mongrel terriers to snap and snarl round a bigger dog's heels, they seem to know the , big dogs have no time to take notice of them, and their yapping is doubtless music in their own ears, if only an irritating discord in others. As there is no use in growling without suggesting a means of improvement, may I suggest that you make some charge for admission to your columns? I am sure those who have anything to say would willingly pay, and those who have nothing to say and won't say it might be induced to think twice before rushing into print just for the love of seeing their effusions reproduced in the paper, if they had to pay a slight fee each time for the privilege of so doing. Before closing, let me add my hearty appreciation of the water and drainage scheme now on hand. . A liberal supply of water is badly needed. Though Te Awamutu has, in spite of past disadvantages, turned out' a lot of fine healthy men and women that compare very well with the inhabitants of other towns, in spite of all the dust, dirt, microbes, and other abominations that they are supposed to have swallowed from their childhood up.—l am, etc., Subscriber.
