The Waipa Post. PUBLISHED EVERY TUESDAY AND FRIDAY TUESDAY, AUGUST 22, 1911. NEW POST OFFICE AT TE AWAMUTU.

AT the official opening of the sale yards at Te Awamutu some eighteen months ago the present member for the Waikato electorate (Mr H. J. Greenslade) stated that he hoped to be present at the laying of the foundation stone of the new post office at an early date. The recollection, of that statement causes us to wonder if anything has been done to arrange for a fitting celebration on the occasion referred to. From present appearances ■it would seem that no steps have been taken in this connection, which we consider is rather a pity, and we would urge upon those in charge of our municipal affairs to take such steps as will result in a fitting ceremony. From his remarks we have every reason to think that our member would use every endeavour to arrange for the presence of a Minister of the Crown and brother M.P.'s at this function. Every such opportunity should be availed of to bring our rapidlyrising town under notice, and represent the deservingness of our many needs. We have no grievance if important Govern-ment-owned business sites are lying unlet and idle, or public play grounds left unsubsidised, if we are too apathetic to bring these things under the notice of the Government, arid it is by the proper use of our opportunities to bring Ministers on the spot (such as is here advocated) that some of our many rights will be granted. It must be gratifying to all residents —more especially the business portion of our community —to see the foundations so well in hancl. We are given to understand that it requires but another week to see the concrete foundations completed, in view of which, if anything is to be done, there is necessity for immediate action. At the present moment it would be impossible to form any idea as to the value of this latest addition to our public buildings, and we trust that no effort will be spared to permanently mark the occasion of the commencement of the erection of this long-felt want —our new post office.
