AYRSHIRES AT MOUMAHAKI.

Speaking of the small herd of Ayrshire cows recently sent to the Moumahaki Experimental Farm, the Minister of Agriculture stated recently that it was thought by the Department that the establishment of a good dairy herd in Taranaki would greatly assist the farmers in that provincial district, as they are specially interested in the output of butter and cheese. The Government is, therefore, proceeding to carry out that idea. Regarding what has been done, a portion of the present herd has been brought from the State farm at Ruakura, and some have been purchased in the South Island. They are not culls. Additional strains will be added in the near future from Scotland. Mr.Dunlop a member of the Scottish Agricultural Commission to Australia, has been authorised to make the purchase, and from his great knowledge of Ayrshire cattle he may be relied upon to send out good stock.
