TUHIKARAMEA V PIRONGIA

On Saturday afternoon the above teams met at the paddock kindly lent by Mr W. 'Macky, which resulted in one of the finest games played here this season. The ball was kicked off by Pirongia, and play was very exciting for the first few minutes, but Tuhikaramea soon had Pirongia on the defensive. A. W. Jones altered the play by carrying the ball to mid-field. The game then went to Tuhikaramea's 25, where Pirongia were given a free kick, which was taken by Pleke and resulted in a goal. Pirongia ... ... 3 Tuhikaramea ... 0 Resuming play Tuhikaramea earned the ball down the field, and in comparatively little time crossed the line. Fear kicked a beautiful goal. . . Pirongia ... „.- ..3 Tuhikaramea ... 5 .
A little off-side play by Pirongia altered things, and again play was at the Tuhikaramea 25, from which position Heke made a very smart score. Pirongia ... ... 6 Tuhikaramea ... 5 In the second half Tuhikaramea had the best of it, and on four.occasions scored. The final whistle sounded after a free kick forTukikaramea, with the scores : Tuhikaramea ... 19 Pirongia ... ... 6
The visiting team were entertained at dinner at the Alexandra Hotel belore leaving for home.
Both teams exhibited some very fine play and with more practice either would be able to put a very creditable team on the field.
Mr Dave Bruce made an efficient referee.
