FATAL ACCIDENT AT OTOROHANGA.
Telegraph.] (Own Correspondent.) Otorohanga, This Day. A very distressing accident occurred about twenty-eight miles from Otorohanga, on Saturday last, whereby a young fellow, Albert Fenton, about 21 years old, was killed instantly while engaged bushfalling. Three young men, Albert Fenton, A. Dew, and Bagnall had a contract for. felling 200 acres of bush for Mr Vickerman. ' Shortly before two o'clock Mr Dew, who was working nearest to the unfortunate man, could hot hear the ring of Fenton's axe, and after listening awhile, called out, and on getting no reply, made his way over the logs to find out what was the matter. He found the body lying flat on the ground and lifeless. Dew and his niate carried the body for a number of miles till they came to Mr Johnson's place, where they got a buggy and drove into Otorohanga on Sunday evening. Mr Teasdale, coroner at Te Awamutu, was informed, and he, with Dr Reekie, journeyed to Otorohanga. At the inquest Dr. Reekie said that the deceased's skull was fractured and his neck broken. {The coroner's verdict was accidental death. It is surmised that a branch of a tree when falling struck the deceased and knocked him off a log. Fenton was very well known and greatly respected in OtorohgLnga. His parents had only recently left for Whangarei. Deceased was a hard-working, industrious young man, and a great cricketer, and it is pleasing to note that the members of the cricket team have given a very pretty wreath, and have requested to be allowed to act as pallbearers as a mark of the esteem *in which they held their late comrade.
