OTOROHANGA.
(Own Correspondent.)
A .very enjoyable ball was given last Thursday by the Otorohanga branch of the Farmers' Union. The arrangements were in. the able hands of Messrs R. G. Matthews, president, ? and H. M. Quin, secretary, and reflected great credit on these two gentlemen. The music was supplied by Loyd's Band> and the catering was done by Mr Buchanan, Auckland. Nikau palms and ferns transposed the hall into quite a fairy-like palace. About twentyfive couples were present, and enjoyed the programme of twentyfour dances. Messrs Quin, Matthews, Osmond and Bourke were the M.C.'s. Among the pretty dresses worn we noticed Mrs Matthews, in a lemon-coloured silk trimmed with jet; Mrs Quin, buttercup satin, trimmed with chiffon, gold pessementerie and black velvet, bebe ribbon, with a spray of scarlet poppies across the corsage; Mrs Worthington, soft black dress trimmed with black and gold lace; Mrs Johnson, black net; Mrs Whyte, white chiffon taffetas trimmed with silk insertion and old gold braid; Miss Cauber (Auckland), soft silk Empire' frock, jewelled comb in her hair; Mrs Colhoun, black silk relieved with a spray of tea roses ; Mrs Spencer, lovely cream lace dress over deep gold silk; Miss Board, soft black voile trimmed with black fringe piped with skyblue; Miss Colhoun, soft white silk, silver trimming; Mrs A. Osmsby, soft white net dress; Miss Johnson, deep blue paillette silk relieved with cream lace Greek fillet bands in her hair; Miss L. Johnson, soft cream dress; Miss Doris Wilkins, soft white silk; Mrs Drummond, pretty floral muslin; Miss Bukosky, (Ohaupo), soft muslin frock; Mrs.. McDiarimid, soft white silk pearl trimmings. A very enjoyable dance was given by Mrs Holden last Saturday night. There were about thirty couples present, and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves.
A number of energetic members of the Anglican Church turned out on Saturday afternoon and planted ornamental trees and shrubs in the church grounds. The trees were provided by the ladies' guild, and several ladies were present in the afternoon and provided a very welcome afternoon tea,
