GOOD BUTTER PROSPECTS.
Indications are pointing more and more strongly to a very active demand for New Zealand butter during the coming season, For some weeks past, remarks the " Taranaki Herald," London cable messages have told of exceptionally dry weather, both in England and on the Continent. and as the drought still continues, it is a serious matter for dairy farmers and others oh the other side of the world, but their misfortune is our gain, for it means that there will be a short make of butter there, and New Zealand - shippers will reach a market ' that is unusually bare. The summer is so far advanced now in the northern hemisphere that there is scarcely a possibility of a recovery, for even if rain •comes soon, the early frosts, which generally occur in September, will prevent much growth of grass. Moreover, the season will be a very bad one for root crops, and winter feed will consequently be scarce and dear. These facts support the opinion expressed by Weddell and Co., in their annual report, that higher prices will rule for butter and cheese during the.coming.season. . . There is every prospect of excellent prices ruling for both butter and cheese for the season now opening, and, if the weather is kind, farmers should experience one of the best seasons they ever had.
