NEARLY £3OOO IN A MONTH.

In consequence of the high price ruling in the local butter market, a considerable quantity of the Australian article has found its way into Wellington of late. During January, February, and March none was imported, but in the quarter ended with June, cwt. came in. During July and last week, however, the importations amounted in all to 470 cwt., valued at £2862. Sending butter to New Zealand savours somewhat of the old joke of sending coals to Newcastle, but the prese it high prices make the deal profitable in spite of the import duty,
