KIHIKIHI.

(Own correspondent.) Promoters of the Band of Hope

movement in Kihikihi should feel highly gratified with the success of Friday evening’s meeting. Great interest and appreciation was shown by the crowded audience in the excellent programme provided. Meetings of this kind are usually marked by the active participation of the children. Friday night’s meeting was no exception to this rule, and Kihikihi may justly be proud of the high ideals of its Band of Hope boys and girls. Apart from the moral purpose of their efforts, they are to be congratulated upon the brightness and ability with which their dialogues and recitations were rendered. In addition to the children’s performances the Bedford family contributed two orchestral items. Songs were rendered by Mrs Poolman, Misses McFiinn, and Henricsen, and Mr O. Price Owen, and a recitation by Miss M. Ashley. Mr Crispin, a visitor from Auckland, delivered a most interesting temperance address, while Rev. Woollass was a most efficient chairman. A vote of thanks to all who had assisted, and congratulations to the promoters (proposed by Mr O. P. Owen) terminated the meeting.

On the evening of Saturday, last the Taylor-Carrington Dramatic Company gave an entertainment in the Town Hall. The programme consisted of two farces, entitled “Ihe Girl from Chicago,” and “Any andArriet,” and despite the extreme cold of the night, they were fortunate in having a large audience to witness their performance.
