KIHIKIHI.

(Own correspondent.) On Tuesday afternoon the monthly meeting of the Women's Christian Temperance Union was held in the Presbyterian Church. Mrs H. Sutherland (president) occupied the chair. During the meeting a good programme was arranged for the Band of Hope concert on Friday evening. After hearing the impromptu speeches at last Tuesday's meeting of the Literary and Debating Society it cannot be denied that Kihikih.i possesses a good percentage of budding orators. The profound secrecy maintained as to the nature of the subjects selected added greatly to the interest of the meeting. Choice of two subjects, with five minutes for preparation, was allowed to each speaker; and to avoid an} r waiting the subjects were drawn one speaker ahead, so that while one person was addressing the meeting the next in order had some time in which to give expression to their views. The Society is fortunate in securing the services of the Rev. F. W. Clarke Tor next Tuesday evening, when a lecture on " The air we breathe " will be given. It is with pleasure I have to record Miss Kathleen Clifford's success at the candidates' examination held a fortnight ago. The teachers of the Kihikihi school are to be congratulated on the continued success of their school. Throughout Mr Perry's lengthy teaching experience only one of his candidates has failed. During the last ten years there have been only two -failures in the Sixth Standard. This is a record not equalled, 1 think, in the Auckland province.
