HELP FOR FARMERS.
THE Advisory Committee of the Farmers' Union has given great attention to the progress of the
boys brought from England by Mr Sedgwick, and in their opinion the results are extremely gratifyng, and have exceeded expectations. The arrangements for the welfare ot the lads, made by the Department of Labour, are as good as can be desired, and have given satisfaction to all parties. We hope that the Government will follow up this shipment, with another larger one in the near future. One farmer in this district expressed his willingness to take two or three of the next lot of boys, and we' have no doubt but that a hundred boys could be placed satisfactorily in this district. When we remember that each of these lads will have £IOO in the "bank by the time he finishes his apprenticeship, and in addition will have the necessary experience required to make a good farmer, it seems absurd that any restrictions should be placed in the way of getting these boys out and giving them a chance, and at the same time ease the strain of many a man, who is forced to do a great deal more than he ought simply because he cannot get suitable help. The Farmers' Union, we understand, is seeking to get an idea of how many boys are required. When this is done, it is proposed to approach the Minister "of Labour and request him to reconsider his decision, not to bring out any further parties until after next January. We hope they will be successful in their quest.
