FOUND DROWNED.
The body of a man found in the Waitomo c 'eek on Monday night by Messrs Forster and Chalils has been identified as that of John Cv ldy, a carpenter, of Qto.ohanga. He had been sick for some time, and was seen wandering about for two days. As stated : n our last issue, the body was brought to Otorohanga on Tuesday, where the inquest was he’d.
At the inquest, the jury brought in a verdict of accidental death by drowning, no blame, being attachable to anyone. Mr P. Challis was the principal witness, who, with Mr J. M. Forster, had found the body in the Waitomo creek above the crves. It appears that the deceased must have fallen into the creek from a nairow part of the road,, and dropped about thirty feet, hitting bis head on the rocks below, and thus partially stunning him. He was found with his hand firmly grasping the branch of a snag in the river. His chance of gettingout of the swollen creek was considerably lessened by his wearing a heavy oilskin. Mr .A, Watts, of Otorohanga, with whom the deceased had resided for three years in his evidence said that Cundy had been in very indifferent health for some time. The funeral took place on Wednesday afternoon.
