THE WANDERERS.
The above Musical Comedy Costume Company, under the direction of Mr Geo. Stephenson, visited Te Awamutu on Wednesday appearing in the Town Hall that evening. There was a verv fair attendance which no doubt would have been better, but for the inclement state of the weather. All recollections of' the wintry conditions outside were forgotten immediately the curtain was raised, and throughout the programme the members of the company could not fail to satisfy even the most critical of the audience. Following on the lines of the original Scarlet Troubadours, the half dozen or so members of the company were dressed in scarlet, and the curtain rose to the rattling chorus, “Wanderers Gay.” sung by the company. The individual items which followed were of a very high order, and the appreciation was shown by the rounds of applause which invariably followed. It is difficult to individualise, but we can- ' not but mention Leslie Holmes, the comic man, who caused much merriment in his encore song “ To-morrow,” and generally amused the audience, which roared ■ with laughter at his quaint facial contortions. It is questionable if everTe Awamutu audiences have had the opportunity of hearing a better comedian. Miss Ruby Guest also became a favourite from the moment of her appearance. As a mandoline player she is certainly deserving of special praise, while her happy manner on stage cannot fail to always create a favourable impression.* The “ bottle ” symphony by the joint company was very enthusiastically received, whilst the closing item in the form of a short comedietta, “A Regular Mix Up,” was very well rendered. Space will not permit a full report of' each item submitted,-but it is sufficient to say that in every instance the applause which followed bore testimony to the appreciation of each item. We trust that, at no very distant date, this company will again visit Te Awamutu, when the memories of the success of their lastvisitw.il! be sufficient guarantee to secure a packed house.
