FOOTBALL.
GTOROHANGa-TE KUITI. On Saturday last the above match was played on the Gtorohanga ground, which was in excellent condition, and favoured a fasi contest. The playing time was divided into of twenty minutes eacflF Devine captained Te Kuiti, and Dave Turner .was Otorohanga's skipper. Mt Burke was referee, and Messrs Fi "ber and Poole were touch judge;?. Te Kuiti won the toss, and plaved the first spell with the W;ind. Patton kicked off >V.n Otoifohanga, the leather being smart;!y returned to midfield. A f ■'<!;'; some loose play, Otorohangy were penalised for off-side plai(. Devine found touch in Otorohanga's 25. A rush by thfe home forwards brought play ! : nio mid-field again, when [acobsjen secured and found the Sine with a neat kick well into the visitors' territory^
The home forwards, securing possession, all but ' got over, a scrum 5 • yards out eventuating. The home team were here awarded a free kick, but failed, to register a score. Loose play in Te Kuiti's territory occupied the remainder of this first 20 minutes' \spell; no score. On changing >-Te Kuiti kicked off, and their forwards rushed the ball Avell down field. Tal. Clarke saved. A free kick was soon after awarded Otorohanga, and Jim Clarke booted the oval over the goal line, and the visitors forced. From loose play following the kick out, Kirk secured, and after a good run, found touch about half-way. Half-time sounded; no score. The third " twenty" was conspicuous by the number of marks, and the leather was kicked up and down field for some considerable time. A rush by Kirk and Hurley comoelled the home team -o force. W. Bell marked in front of the posts, and Dement landed a goal, drawing first blood for Te Kuiti. The whistle sounded time shortly afterwards; score, Te Kuiti 3, Otorohanga nil. Te Kuiti kicked off for the last " twenty." During this spell Otorohanga had decided'y the best of the play. A rush by the home forwards ended in Bert. Clarke crossing the line, but he failed to convert. After some play in mid-field, during which the leather was take l " into the visitors' quarters, Ellis had hard luck in not getting over, being forced into touch within five yards of Te Kuiti's line. From a rree kick the home team went near placing a goal, the ball hitting the cross-bar and rebounding into play. Te Kuiti defended their line very creditably, and Hurley rushed the play to half-way. At this stage Hurley received a nasty blow on the head and was forced to retire. The whistle sounded time with no further addition to the score. Otorohanga 3- Te Kuiti 3. Of the visitors, Hurley, Kirk and Clarke did some excellent work, while Patton, D. Turner Mexted and T. Emery (forwards) and Ellis and J. Clarke (backs) did yeoman service for the home team.
