EUCHRE PARTY AND DANCE.

The second euchre party and dance in connection with the Pride of Te Awamutu Lodge, No. 84, U.A.0.D., was held in the Town Hall on Friday evening. There was a very large attendance, which shows that the efforts to provide an enjoyable entertainment were appreciated. In every detail the evening- was a most enjoyable one, and reflects great credit on those responsible for the arrangements being so well carried out. The decorations were a special feature, the main hall looking its best, while the supper room presented an equally artistic appearance. Euchre was commenced at 8 p.m., and after two hours’ play the scores were taken. In the ladies’ section Misses Frost, Irvine, B. McGovern, F. Mandeno, and A. Alexander, with eleven games, tied for first plaee, and had to play off in the final. This resulted in a win for Miss Frost. In a like manner Messrs W. J. Phillips and H. Kay with 13 games had to play off for the gentlemen’s section, and after a well contested game the latter was successful in securing the prize. The Hon. Geo. Fowls, at the request of the committee, presented the prizes, and after a pleasing speech, in which he spoke of the growth of the Lodge in general, and of the benefit of such functions as they had that night, he duly called on the successful competitors. Immediately after supper dancing was commenced, and from the appearance of all there can be no question as to the success of this part of the programme. Messrs Ansell and Peate as M.’sC. were fully alive to the interests s of the dancers and fulfilled the auties of their office to the best advantage. The mention of a future entertainment by this lodge will be sufficient guarantee to warrant a large attendance and in many quarters the notification will be received with pleasure.
