LAWN TENNIS.

SEASON CLOSED AT TE AWAMUTU.

Quite a number of club members and friends assembled at the Te Awamutu lawn tennis courts on Satu.-day on the occasion of the official closing of the season. In the earlier hours of the afternoon the final match of the men's junior championship was played, the competitors being Messrs G. Griffith and L. North, and resu 'ad in a win for the former, the scores being 6— 3, 6—5. It was a very well-con-tested . game, and looked as though it would be a three-set match, as North was 5—4 in the second set, but steady play and sxrccessful volleying enabled Griffiths ■to annex the 2 next gumes, and with them set and match. Dr. Henderson (president) then declared the season closed, but before doing so spoke of the success that had attended the Club, and thanked all members and officers for their hearty co-operation in making the season so enjoyable to all parties. He thanked all who had so kindly presented trophies for competition, more especially Dr Reekie fpr the medal to encourage junior players. It Avas gratifying to see the new members taking an interest in the Club, and he was pleased that the encouragement had been offered. He then called on Mrs E. I. Miller to present the trophies to the successful competitors in the various tournaments played during the seasonRounds of cheers were then given for both the president and Mrs Miller.

Afternoon tea was provided by the ladies, which was greatly appreciated, and altogether a very enjoyable afternoon was spent.
