The Waipa Post. PUBLISHED EVERY TUESDAY AND FRIDAY. FRIDAY, APRIL 28, 1911. OUR “PUBLIC OPINION” COLUMN.

THE value of our correspondence columns must be apparent to all readers, for through these columns interested parties are accorded an opportunity of offering suggestions on any proposal, or criticising any matter of public interest. But it was not our intention to comment upon these columns from any standpoint but to offer a few suggestions in order that their purpose may be better understood and our posiion more clearly defined. Let us take this opportunity of stating that we are pleased to receive letters of public interest for publication, and will always endeavour to give readers the right of expressing their views. We say “ Public Interest ” for it is to matters of this nature that the columns are open. In a like manner municipal matters can often be adjusted by making direct application to the local body interested which is by far the better method of getting satisfaction. Correspondence requires tact —is the proposal a matter for the public ? It is our endeavour to further every move that tends for the advancement of the district. But, as a reader, you may have other views, and to you our columns are equally open. It is an admitted fact that there are two sides to every story and in giving your views you may rest assured that readers will judge impartially on the merits of either side. In this manner, if properly used, the. true value of these columns is shown, for they will serve, not to create diverse opinions, but to lead to a better understanding and thus ultimately tend to a movement of progression. For ourselves let it be understood that correspondents views are their own. We favour no party or class, but lend ourselves to any progressive movement irrespective of the organisers. Judge us by our own columns and in so doing you will give us that fair trial that every newspaper deserves.
