WOMEN’S INSTITUTE

NAPIER TOWNSWOMEN’S GUILD VISIT. There was a good attendance of members and visitors at the monthly meeting of the Waipawa Women’s Institute, presided over by Miss A. Bibby. The meeting opened with. the singing of the greeting song, and the presentation of the minutes and financial statement by the secretary. A resolution was passed wishing “Bon voyage” to Miss Jull, who has sailed for England as one of the New Zealand delegates to the World Conference. A gift of a child’s frock beautifully smocked by Mrs A. Logan, had been sent with Miss Jull for presentation to the correspondent of our English link at Seaview, Isle of Wight. The competitions for the May meeting were decided upon as a bowl of autumn flowers and plate of four pikelets. Members were requested to assist by baking for the Federation meeting to be held at Waipawa on Wednesday, 19th April. The competitions for the day weTe as follows: —Best peach jam: Mrs Thompson 1, Mrs Collins 2. Sponge cake: Mrs Grenside 1. A splendid programme of musical items were rendered by members of the Napier Townswomen’s Guild, as follows:—Song in unison, by the party; vocal solo, “Angus McDonald,” Mrs Walker; trio, “April is a Lady,” Mesdames Woolfe, Chapman, Arthur; reading, “The Melody Enthusiast,” Mrs Gifford; piano solo, Mrs Fairey; vocal solo, “Spring is Here,” Mrs Gifford; duet, “In Springtime,” Mesdames Walker and Gifford; vocal solo, “I Wonder If Love is a Dream,” Mrs Chapman; duet, Love is Meant to Make Us Glad,” Mesdames Spackman and Arthur; vocal solo, Mrs Spackman. On the motion of Miss Bibby a hearty vote of thanks was accorded to the visitors with acclamation. The following new members were proposed :• —Mesdames E. Kingston, Allan King, and Miss C'roker. A delightful afternoon tea was served, the hostesses being Mesdames Kingston, Thompson, Boatwood, MacPhcrson, and Miss MacPherson. Mrs Grenside was appointed as Press correspondent.
