THE BUSINESSMAN'S SLCC/1N “SHOP EARLY AND OFTEN.” Considering the very broken weather which has been experienced throughout the district during the past few weeks business people generally have good reason to be satisfied with the shopping results. Trade has eome in patches. When rain interfered with shearing and harvesting country people would take a day off and put forward their Christmas shopping, and when a fine spell came there would be a lull. Many sbop|H>rs have no doubt been attracted by the community sale circular issued by the Chamber of Commerce, and this method of advertising should have very beneficial results. To the townspeople the trader says “Shop early and often.* 1 The majority of the business houses have spared no effort to attract Christmas custom by means of attractive window displays, in which are set out in tempting array all manner of articles suitable for gifts, rind the shopper should have no difficulty in making a selection. A reminder is given that shops will close at 5 o’clock this evening and remain open till 10 p.m. to-morrow (Christmas Eve).

Apart from the purchasing of the family gifts housewives will be faced with the problem of catering for the home from to-morrow night till Wednesday morning, but no doubt they will discover means of ovei coming the difficulty. If the weather becomes more settled the Pourerere and Kairakau beaches will attract large numbers of holiday-makers over the Christmas period. All the shacks at both places ore now occupied, and arc likely to continue so for the next two or three months.

The only local attractions for Monday are the races at Waipukurau and the swimming sports at Patangata, each of which should prove a popular rendezvous.
