ST. JOHN AMBULANCE SOCIETY

ANNUAL MEETING OF WAIPAWA BRANCH.

Mr N. J. McKay presided over the annual meeting of the Waipawa branch of the St. John Ambulance Association. REPORT. The following report on the past year’s activities was submitted: — The work of the Association has been carried on under very adverse conditions during the past twelve months, hut the indications are much brighter for work this coming year, Three students passed in First Aid. Lectures in Home Nursing were not given, due to the illness of Dr. South and to the departure of Miss W. E. Tonkin, superintendent of the Nursing Division. The members of both divisions have been loyal to Association work. Two members, Misses E. Miller and J. D. McKay, qualified for medallions, and these have been ordered from England. During the year classes were commenced at Otane in Home Nursing, and were well attended. Twelve candidates succeeded in passing the examination at the close of the lectures. Lectures in First Aid have commenced this year with a big membership roll. The financial position is satisfactory, the sum of £ll 16s 2d being held in the P. 0.5.8. account. The year’s working resulted in a profit of £1 5s before writing off depreciation of Ambulance and Nursing Division property. The thanks of the Association are due to Dr. Norris for delivery of lectures and the interest shown by him in the work of the Association. Dr. South, who had been lecturer in Home Nursing since the formation of the Sub-Centre, removed to Napier early last year and the thanks of the Association are duly conveyed to him for his valued services. GENERAL. Officers were elected as follows: President, Mr F. Eagle (subject to acceptance); secretary, Miss E. Pellow (temporary); superintendent First Aid, Mr E. R. Hutchings (reelected) ; superintendent Home Nursing, Miss E. Tait. A general discussion on matters of interest to the Centre endued, resolutions being earried for the better working of the financial affairs, Mr Spargo (representing the Otane section) and the secretaries for the time being of Ambulance and Nursing Divisions being added to the executive. The First Aid class will commence work of this season to-morrow, at 7.30 p.m. Intending members are urged to be present.
