The induction of the Rev. W. S. Stephens as vicar of St. Peter’s Church will take place at the eveningservice next Sunday, when Dean Brocklehurst will occupy the pulpit. Judging by the large number of white butterflies to he seen throughout the district the parasites which were imported some years ago to deal with the pest have found the job too big for them. Mr Hiisheer, of Napier, has forwarded to Mr Morse, Mayor of Napier, a cheque for £IOO as a nucleus of a fund to combat tile pest, and it is suggested that a bonus of 2s per hundred be offered.

A garden party for the benefit of the Waipawa- Children’s Home, organised by Mrs and Miss Witherow, was held at their home, “Haowlienua,” on Saturday afternoon, each guest bringing a contribution in the form of jam, fruit, or vegetables. During the afternoon an interesting competition and clock golf were taken part in by most of those present, and songs by Mrs Gray and recitations by Miss Jean McKay were listened to with pleasure. Sale price 2s 3d.— Bryant’s.* A bill embodying the Government's proposals for the establishment of an iron industry in New Zealand is already in the hands of the law draftsman and will be submitted to Parliament during the next two weeks. A statement on these lines was made by the Prime Minister, Rt. Hon. M. J. Savage, in his speech at Featherston on Saturday. “For years there has been talk about developing the iron deposits of the Dominion,” he said, “and it is about time that we stopped talking and did something.” Mr E. D. Savidge, representative of Azzopardi and Holland, opticians, will pay his periodical visit to Wai■pawa on Thursday, March 10th. Appointments may be made with Mr W. J. Harris.* The Railway Department announces that a w’eek-end excursion to Auckland and Frankton Junction has been arranged for the week-end 4th-7th March. The excursion train leaves Wellington on Friday night (4th) and arrives at Auckland on Saturday morning. The deliberation at this session will he conducted in camera, and even when the Synod has adjourned no public announcement will be made as to the appointment decided upon. In accordance with the amended Church canon, it is required that the name selected by Synod should be submitted first to the Primate, then to the Bench of Bishops, and finally to the standing committees in all dioceses of New' Zealand.
