THE FARMERS’ DAY
PATANGATA PLOUGHING MATCHES RECORD ATTENDANCE. The good luck which has attended the Patangata and District Ploughing Match Club in regard to weather for its annual “farmers’ day,” stuck to it yesterday. After a week of unsettled weather the morning broke fine and towards noon the snn shone out gloriously, inducing a very large crowd to find their way to Mr W. G. Evans’ property on the Otane-Patari-g'ata road, where the matches were held. The attendance, as shown by the gate returns, established a record, and the executive are to be congratulated on the fact that they amply retain the support of the general public.
No better site could have been selected for the matches and the various competitions. All flat land and right on the road-line, it was possible to bring all sections of the programme together, and the public were able to interest themselves in the various attractions. The ploughing, naturally, appealed to the farmer, the jumping competitions to the sport-loving section of the community, and the dog trials to all and sundry. Very complete arrangements had been made by the executive committee, and the secretary, Mr W. A. Tod, had all the details at his finger ends. In the evening the customary social gathering was held in the Patangata Hall, and was a most successful function.
Particulars of the various compete tions will appear in Monday’s issue.
