H.B. CHILDREN’S HOMES.

For forty-four years the residents of Hawke’s Bay have gladly assumed the responsibility of providing 1 the necessary funds to carry on the valuable work of earing for the orphaned, neglected or destitute children of the district, and this year it is confidently anticipated there will he an even more ready response to the trustees’ appeal. There are 110 children in the Home ranging' from four years of age to sixteen years, and the maintenance of such a large family necessarily involves substantial expenditure. Throughout its forty-four years of activity very many children have passed through the Home, and today there are numbers of good citizens in this district who, hut for the assistance rendered at a very necessary time, might not have developed either physically or mentally. The appeal of the child Is one which strikes to the very roots of the feelings, and induces a practical demonstration of that wish to assist in a good cause. It can be said that charity is the greatest of the virtues, and if it is not possible for each and ! every resident of this district to exer- | else the act and thought of charity to the extent he or she would wish it is I possible for all to indulge that desire I to some extent. I The trustees appeal for the sum of I £ISOO, and surely this amount is not too large to ask 6f the people of I Hawke’s Bay. The years following I the earthquake were difficult finani dally for the Children’s Home, and to-day there is an adverse balance of £1728 19s 9d in the income and expenditure account. With the objective of £ISOO achieved this drift in the finances will be arrested. A collection is bc-ing organised throughout the district, but it is not possible to make a personal call upoh all residents. It is asked, therefore, that donations be sent by post to the treasurer, H. If. Edgley, Church Lane, Napier. All donations will he acknowledged in the columns of the newspapers. The smallest donation will be gratefully received.
