RETAINED P,Y BRITAIN. LONDON, July 20. Piltain retained the Davis Cup against the United States’ challenge. With her hold on the cup given a premising start by her success in the ijr. iwo singles yesterday, Britain elir. lied her triumph when Hughes and Tuckey to-day defeated Allison end Van Ryn in the doubles. Britain has thu- won three of the live mat 'ies comprising the tie. and the remaining two singles cannot affect the result. Tie doubles resulted: — Hughes and Tuckey (Britain) defeat i Allison and Van Ryn (V.S.A.), I—fi, o—B. 0—.3, o—3. At attendance of 7000 watched the bn doubles fight in the Davis Cup that Britain has put up.
