WAIPUKURAU STOCK SALE SMALL ENTRY. The cattle yarding at Waipukurau yesterday was typical more of Taranaki than of Hawke’s Bay, for of a sparse yarding of only 36* fat cattle all were fattened dairy cows carrying condition. On account of the plain nature of the entiy very little interest was evidenced in this section of the sale. As an example of the class of cattle offering the first pen of Jersey cows and two heifers, actually carrying only light store order, realised a total value of £1 8s 6d. A single, well framed Jersey cow, carrying- light prime order, sold at £1 0s 9d, which proved to he the day’s highest price in the cattle section. It was the most disappointing entry from the beef buyers’ viewpoint for many months. Only a handful of fat sheep were penned, and, as a result, bidding was left to one freezing- buyer. Rates were variable, but odd, well finished lines selling well. A bid of 14s 3d secured two lightly finished white-faced lambs. Sixteen lightly finished black-faced cross lambs made the same figure. Fourteen lightly finished ewes realised 11s 6d. A bid of 23s 7d failed to secure 47 fairly framed wethers, carrying* medium prime order and a good slipe of wool. Two prime heavy maiden ewes, of good frame, made a good sale at 225. A brace of prime white-faced lambs, of good frame, realised 21s. In the store sheep pens the effect of the rains was clearly apparent on the market, keen competition being the order. A bid of 10s 9d secured 170 store ewes, well framed, carrying* store order and mixed in the mouth. Two hundred and eighty-seven two and four-tooth wethers, store conditioned, of somewhat mixed type, sold out at 18s Id. Two hundred and seventytwo store wethers, mixed in size and in the skin, sold out at 18s 2d. One hundred and forty-four six-tooth ewes, store conditioned, fairly grown and well woolled, on account of “Ngahere” Station, sold out at 22s 9d.
