The Waipawa Mail FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 9, 1934. “RADIO WEEK.”
! Some time ago a movement was inaugurated in Waipukurau having for its object the installing' of radio in the District Hospital, but the response was not as generous as anticipated, and it has now been decided to extend the appeal over the whole of the hospital district, by means of which it is hoped to raise sufficient funds to complete the equipment. The cost of installing such a service in a public institution like a hospital is very much more than in a private house, as it will be necessary to have leads to each hed, with earphones. Hence it is anticipated that between £l5O and £2OO will be ■ required. It is unnecessary for us to dwell on the very great benefit which such an installation will be to patients. Those who have had the misfortune to lie confined to bed for any great length of time know full well how tedious it becomes, and any
movement that will bring a little joy and pleasure to such should evoke a warm response from the public. Very complete arrangements have been made by the organising committee for a canvass of the whole district, and we have no doubt that their efforts will be amply rewarded. The Mayor has appointed canvassers to cover the' whole of Waipawa, and they will make their appeal between to-day and Tuesday. A contribution, however small, will be appreciated.
