A LONG TRAMP.

AUCKLAND TO WELLINGTON IN THREE DAYS. WELLINGTON, Last night. Covering a distance of about 445 miles on foot since last Wednesday in his walk from Auckland to Wellington, Neville McCarthy, aged 18, arrived here at 1 o’clock on Saturday morning. He had good weather with him all the way, and made an average of about 45 miles a day. McCarthy is walking champion of Sacret Heart College, Auckland, and a member of the Elynndale Athletic Club, and his object in this long-dis-tance feat is to gain some publicity for road-walking clubs in New Zealand. It is hoped by means of encouragement to walkers in the Dominion to send a representative to the next Olympic Games to compete in the 31i miles event.
