MUNICIPAL BAND.
We hope that one of the first questions taken in hand by the Borough Council in the New Year will be that of re-establishing the Municipal Band. It seems a shame that such a fine set of instruments as- the town possesses should be lying idle for Jack of a little enthusiasm. Recently, at the request of the Chamber of Commerce, the Mayor endeavored to get a band together for the festive season, but it was found that the time was too short in which to work up a programme. It is to be hoped that the same reason will not be assigned when arrangements are being made for the commemoration of Anzac Day on the 25th of April. That is some time ahead, but apparently in band matters it is necessary to look well ahead. In these days of
adio and gramophone the young eople appear content to find their ntertainment in “canned music,” ather than find pleasure in mastering he playing of an instrument themelves. This tendency is to be dedored, however much we may enjoy he records of the masters which the !sc has brought to our homes. But ve still think that a little enthusiasm n the part of the Borough Council night have the effect of consolidating he musical forces of the town.
