Following upon the investigations made at the Chief Post Office, Auckland, by two departmental inspectors into allegations of betting bv operators during the Tnkapuna Jockey Club’s meeting on November 30th and December 2nd, an inquiry is to he held in the Magistrate’s Court next week before Mr F. K. Hunt, S.M. The inquiry, which will not he open to the press or public, is expected to last for several davs.

The large family of Sister Jones, the matron of Abbotsford Home, were entertained by Mrs L. H. MoHardy at her residence on Windsor Hill yestci dav afternoon. The pretty grounds had been decorated with hunting, balloons, etc., which combined in •jiving the surroundings a gav and fos tsve appearance. Each child was the recipient of a Christmas stocking and other git ts-, and were also regaled with afternoon tea. ice cream, and cordials. J-nd it is needless to add that they spent a very jollv time. When the lour came for them to return to the Home they thanked their generous ! ostess for the splendid time she had given them.
