Mr C. Rathbone, of Wellington, spent the week-end at “Abbotsford.” Mr P. Woods, of Wellington, is at present on a visit to Waipawa. Mr Robertson, chief inspector of schools for the district, visited the Waipawa school to-day. The funeral of the late Mr E. Turl'rey, of Wakarara, took place at Waipawa yesterday afternoon, the Rev. J. Pigott conducting the service. Members of Abbotsford Lodge acted as pall-bearers. The late Mr Turfrey had been failing in health for some time, hut the end came somewhat unexpectedly. He had resided in Wakatara for many years, and was widely esteemed. The sympathy of settlers of the district will go out to his sorrowing relatives. The death occurred at the County Hospital this morning of an old and highly respected resident of Waipawa in the person of Mr Henry Carson, at the ripe old age of 86 years. Deceased, who was born at Belfast, Ireland, came to New Zealand some 53 yeais ago, and took up his residence in Waipawa, where he has resided ever since. He was of a quiet, unassuming nature, and with his wife, who predeceased him some years back, was respected for many deeds of kindness. He is survived dry one son, Mr T. Carson, of Waipawa. The funeral takes place on Wednesday at Waipawa. During his residence in Waipawa the late Mr Carson made three trips home to his native land.
