WANT CURRENT.

EXTENSION FROM ONGA ONGA. < < At the meeting of the Central H.B. < Power Board on Friday a letter was < received from Messrs J. E. Masters, * J. Bibby, Beachen and Bradley asking < for a survey of Pettit’s Valley road, ‘ will a view to connecting that area < up with the Board’s electrical sup- 1 ply- ' It was stated by the chairman (Mr 1 A. C. Russell) that the line would be 1 a lengthy and costly one. The ques- ' tion of increased guarantee pay- ' ments would need to be considered. ' An opinion was read by the see- ' retary from the Local Bodies Loans 1 Board, in respect to guarantees, but this was not of a clearly defined nature. On the motion of Mr Rathbone, seconded by Mr Pattison, it was decided that the secretary supply the settlers with an approximate estimate of the cost of the desired supply as soon as the engineer had prepared the figures from a map survey of the area. The chairman offered to interview the prospective consumers, and said he would do so if it was desired subsequent to the foregoing overture being entertained. POURERERE EXTENSION. In the matter of the proposed Pourerere extension, Mr Rathbone stated that Mr Nation was anxious to have definite advice as to a service via Omakere. The survey contemplated had not yet been completed. Admittedly the position was indefinite in respect of an extension to Omakere. Mr Pattison urged that the survey of a line, as proposed, should he carried out. Mr Rathbone said that failingearly action, Mr Nation intended proceeding with an independent supply. Mr Ryan referred to the possible change of attitude on the part of Elsthorpe settlers, by reason of a lesser guarantee being required now, viz., 18 per cent., as against 20 per cent, originally. He pointed to Undesirability of considering an Elsthorpe extension at the same time as that to Pourerere. Mr Witherow remarked that the guarantee required represented £6O per mile. It was decided to advise Mr Naiion that the survey would be held up pending the health of the engineer , (Mr J. K. Lee) enabling same to be completed. The acting-engineer was authorised to proceed with a survey of the l’ourerere area proposed to be included in the Board’s supply system. He stated that he would endeavor to secure the assistance of Mr J. Ashby (Otane) in the examination of routes.
