‘Alfred the King”
A party of Boy Scouts has recently been making a tour of places associated with King Alfred. Among the places was Winchester, which was the scene of much of King Alfred’s life —th c place where he settled and where he died and lies buried. The scouts were received at Winchester by the director of education for the city. During their visit thc boys laid a laurel wreath, tied with black and white ribbons, at the foot of the statue of King Alfred, which was erected in .190.1, on the thousandth anniversary of thc King’s •loath. The wreath bore the inscrip tion, “Alfred thc King, from the latest of his followers.”
